Simple Skin Care Routine to Clear Your Skin!

Simple Skin Care Routine to Clear Your Skin!

Hello Everyone!

Today we are getting into how to design your skin care routine to achieve your skin goals!

My skin has been improving over the past couple of years but instead of facing issues with oiliness and acne, I am now treating my post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is defined as the hyperpigmentation the occurs after inflammation (from acne, eczema, allergic reactions, etc) or trauma (injury) to the skin. This can be characterized as tan, brown, or black spots on the skin that can occur anywhere on the body. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can take anywhere from 6 months to a year to fully treat.

Over the years, I have tried many different products to treat my various skin issues and this routine seems to be working. Many products can take months to fully show their effects on your skin so be patient!

Alright, let’s get into the routine!

A majority of the time, I actually do not wash my face in the morning! (Gasp! Crazy, I know!) In these present times, I tend to be in the house most of the time, and if I wasn’t wearing makeup the day before I will just wash my face with water. Skincare does not always have to be elaborate to be effective!

Nevertheless, here is what I do if I am completing the full routine.

1. CLEANSE

I like to dampen my face with lukewarm water, bordering on cool. This keeps the skin calm and reduces inflammation. I am currently using Corsx Low pH Cleanser, I’ll add a pea-sized amount to my palms, and then I’ll work this into my face for AT LEAST one minute. The 60-second cleansing technique is life-changing. Here is a detailed video about the benefits of cleansing for 60 seconds. After this, I will rinse with lukewarm water and pat the majority of my face dry with a designated face towel.

2. TONER

I will say this first. Toners are not necessary. Most toners act to prep the skin by dampening it to allow you to better absorb your subsequent products. most of the time, this action can be replicated by softly patting your face with warm water and applying your next product. Right now, I use a spritz of rose water all over my face after cleansing because of the added anti-inflammatory properties.

3. SERUM

Next, I apply a daytime serum to address my skin care needs. I am currently using Paula’s Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster. I love this serum/ treatment because it is super lightweight but still has many great ingredients that help with combatting acne and hyperpigmentation.

4. (Optional) SPOT TREATMENT

If needed, you can apply a spot treatment for acne, redness, or some daytime eye cream.

5. MOISTURIZE

I’m pretty boring with my moisturizers. I like to pack my “metaphorical” punch in the serum or treatment and seal it off with a basic moisturizer. Next, I like to use Cetaphil, which most of you may have heard of- it is a great moisturizer that is dermatologist recommended. If you have sensitive skin, this is definitely for you.

6. SUNSCREEN

Always, always, always wear sunscreen when you leave the house (I wear it when I stay inside as well)! This one of the most important parts of skin care! The sunscreen should be at least SPF 30, higher is still better but does not provide a significantly different coverage once it is at least SPF 30. Wearing sunscreen is beneficial for us now and when we get age. It helps protect hyperpigmentation from getting darker, reduces the UVA penetration which causes wrinkles, sunspots, and is linked with skin cancer. So, always remember to wear sunscreen on any part of your body exposed to sunlight.

Following this routine consistently should bring your skin goals to fruition! Of course, you need to be consuming enough water daily and eating a balanced and nutritious diet.
