Beauty Maintenance At Home- Look Gorgeous While Saving Money!

Beauty Maintenance At Home- Look Gorgeous While Saving Money!

Hello Everyone!

Today’s post is about beauty maintenance that can be done at home. Self-care and beauty days are always a fun way to relax and de-stress! I also spoke about the importance of taking care of yourself in this post here! In contrast, please do not be mistaken- some things are best left for the professionals. Regardless, I’m sure many of us have become estheticians over the past year and more proficient in DIY beauty treatments. I have split the list of beauty treatments into face and body!

So let’s get into it!

  1. Face

Eyebrows

As I spoke about in this post, eyebrows are essential to your beauty and facial harmony. They act to frame your face and help portray emotions. Therefore, when working with your eyebrows at home, I caution you to take your time and be precise!

Eyebrow shaping grooms your eyebrows into a specific shape to fit your face. Here is a fantastic video on how to shape your eyebrows according to your facial features. All you need is some thread (or floss) and some bright eyeshadow. The eyebrows are then marked according to your nose, eyes, and arch. In addition, your eyebrows can be shaped according to your face shape (I have attached a picture below). Of course, this is all just a recommendation- you can shape your eyebrows to whatever shape you love!

Eyebrow hair removal can also be done in a variety of ways. There is waxing (strips, hard wax, soft wax), threading, depilatory creams, tweezing, shaving, and sugaring. For beginners, I would recommend using depilatory creams curated for the face. This is easiest because you can apply it with a small brush increasing control of the application and is painless! If you are more experienced, waxing and threading are also classic options to give you long-lasting results.

Eyebrow tinting is a great way to add more drama, colour, and definition to your face. The eyebrows can be tinted with eyebrow dye, eyebrow gel, or henna. The application is quite easy when done on eyebrows that have already been shaped. A good rule of thumb is to use a dye colour that is similar to your eyebrow pencil shade. Here is a video about eyebrow tinting for $8! Be safe when doing this beauty treatment and check for skin irritation before completing the full procedure.

Skin

Hair removal on your face can be done in the same way as eyebrow hair removal (waxing [strips, hard wax, soft wax], threading, depilatory creams, tweezing, shaving, and sugaring). A very popular method has been shaving or derma planning, which essentially removes the hair and dead skin cells on the top of your face. This video explains the process in great detail! Proper before and aftercare are needed to ensure you avoid any irritation or rashes. Be sure your face and hands are clean, your tools are sanitized, and you take proper care of your skin afterwards (exfoliation, soothing lotions, SPF)!

At-home facials can also be done if necessary. In contrast, manyestheticians recommend you do not do (difficult) extractions at home because of the lack of proper technique, tools, and sanitation necessary to do it well. On the other hand, you can definitely steam your face, oil cleanse, exfoliate, and masks.

Steaming your face can be done with a steamer, a hot towel, or a pot of hot water. You’ll want to put your face in the warm steam (not too hot) for around 15 minutes. You can also put a towel around your head and pot to increase the intensity of the steam.

Oil cleansing is also a great way to do a deep clean on your face. I spoke about this process in great detail in this post. On a daily basis, 60 seconds is good enough but if you’re looking for something more intense, 10-30 minutes is great! Exfoliation can be done physically or chemically (recommended). This removes the dead skin cells on your face and brightens up your appearance. Masking is a great way to give your skin a proper cleanse and treatment. Clay mask (oily skin), sheet mask (all skin types), gel mask (dry skin) are just a few examples of the masks you can use.

Facial massages and gua sha are nice ways to defined your facial features. This process acts to drain your lymph nodes and excess fluid, therefore, slimming down your face. The increased blood flow during the massage help repair the skin and slow down ageing.

Hair

Hair masks are an easy beauty treatment to improve the appearance of your hair at home! Unlike face masks, hair masks can be DIY or store-bought. Find out what your hair needs (moisture, thickness, growth, repair) and find a good mask to use! The two types of hair masks you should be incorporating into your regular routine include protein masks, moisturizing masks, and repair masks (for chemically treated hair).

Hair trims are something that can also be done at home with a great pair of scissors. I wouldn’t recommend doing dramatic hair cuts but you can trim your dead ends by yourself easily! This will give your hair a healthy appearance by removing split ends and damaged ends.

Styling your hair at home is something you can quickly learn as well. Brazilian blow-out, keratin treatments, curls, and straightening are things that can be easily mastered with a bit of time. Cornrows, braids, wig applications, weave applications are also things that can be learned at home! Even if you cannot do these styles from scratch, learn how to maintain your hairstyles to keep you looking fresher longer.

Lips

Exfoliating your lips is essential in keeping them soft and moisturized! You can use a simple sugar, honey, and olive oil mix to exfoliate your lips gently!

Lip masks are also a new thing to increase moisture levels! There are DIY options and also store-bought overnight treatments you can use.

Lip tinting is a very simple step to make your lips look sexy and kissable. There are simple 5-minute options to add some colour to your lips and instantly upgrade your appearance.

Teeth

Whitening your teeth is very simple as a result of white strips! These are super simple and can serve as a big improvement to your appearance. There are whitening strips you can purchase from as low as $20. On the other hand, the only DIY teeth whitening I would recommend is oil pulling and baking soda (occasionally) with hydrogen peroxide. You can also purchase whitening toothpaste and mouthwash to maintain your results between your treatments.

Eyelashes

Growing your eyelashes at home can be done with lash serum or castor oil. This is a great way to improve your natural appearance with ease!

2. Body

Skin

As with facial hair removal, body hair removal can be done through waxing (strips, hard wax, soft wax), depilatory creams, shaving, and sugaring. Waxing and shaving are the most popular methods! Before removing any hair make sure your skin is clean and dry (and preferably exfoliated). Afterwards, treat your skin with some soothing lotions and

Masks are not only good for your face and hair, masks are great for your body as well! If you have hyperpigmentation issues, dryness, irritation, or acne, masks are a great way to treat your body.

Scrubs are amazing in improving the softness, glow, and brightness of your skin! You can use the classic DIY recipe (sugar, honey, and olive mix) or use Tree Hut’s or Dove’s great body scrubs. Italy/ Korean towels are also a good way to get a deep exfoliation on your skin as well.

Serums are also a fantastic way to improve your skin appearance- not only for the face. You can use serums with acid, retinol, and vitamin C! Paula’s Choice has a great selection that can help the softness, smoothness, glow of your skin.

Moisturizing your skin is something you should be doing every day! Whether it be lotion or creams, daily application is great for the health of your skin. Don’t forget to use SPF in the daytime as well.

Oils are an essential step after moisturizing to lock in softness and improve texture. You can also give yourself a quick massage while applying the body oil to de-stress and relax. Oils that a great for your skin include rosehip oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, and argan oil. These include great vitamins that work to repair your skin.

Tanning is able to be done on any skin tone is a good way to make your body seem perfect. Self-tan can smooth out and blur any imperfections and a nice bronzing oil is a perfect touch for an event!

Nails

Manicures and pedicures are something that can be completed at home with a bit of equipment. You’ll need a nail file, nail clipper, cuticle cutter, cuticle pusher, cuticle oil, base coat, nail polish, topcoat, nail growth polish, and a nail brush. It is also great to soak your feet and use a foot peel or scrub when possible. Here is a great video on how to take care of your nails. The Russian manicure has become more popular as it focuses on the cuticle which is one of the crucial components in nail health.

If you love a more dramatic look with nail extensions, at-home nail extensions include press-on nails or poly gel nails. You can purchase a kit for around $30-$70 and they can also up to 3 weeks depending on the quality of your application. Here is a great video for poly gel nail application!

Beauty procedures to avoid at home: facial peels, strong acids, permanent eyelash extensions, eyelash tinting, eyebrow lamination, dramatic hair cuts, hair colouring, difficult extractions, micro-needling, sun tanning.

5 Tips For Insane Hair Growth-See Instant Results!

Hello Everyone!

Today I will be giving you 5 tips to grow your hair to waist length! How to make your hair grow faster is a question many people have!

Since I have implemented these tips into my routine, I have noticed a big difference in the length AND health of my hair. If you want serious hair growth, you need to focus on HEALTH, not the LENGTH! Your hair will naturally begin to retain more length the healthier it is.

So let’s get into it!

1. Scalp Massages

Scalp massages are an excellent way to increase the length of your hair! By adding this to your hair care routine, you can expect to increase blood circulation. This will subsequently enhance hair growth, stimulate hair follicles, and strengthen your hair! It has also been reported to reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Combining your oil treatment with a scalp massage is great to accelerate your hair growth results.

2. Oil and Protein Treatments

Although hair moisturizer is very important, I personally find that oil treatments have taken priority in my hair care routine. Personally, I have found that spritzing water on my hair is enough to moisturize it throughout the day. In contrast, applying and massaging small amounts of oil to your scalp regularly or doing hot oil treatments will be beneficial. Experiment and discover which oils work best for your hair! Popular oils include argan oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil, castor oil, rosemary oil, and coconut oil.

Adding oils to your hair has been proven to: increase hair strength, reduce scalp itchiness, increase blood flow, and reduce dryness. Protein treatments are also very important in that they strengthen the hair follicle and reduce breakage. Rice water for hair growth has become very popular recently and for good reason! It is a cheap and efficient way to increase the strength and shine of your hair. Here is a video on how to make rice water at home.

3. Balanced Diet

No matter how amazing and consistent our hair care routine can be, we must eat a healthy and balanced diet to see the greatest return from our efforts! Important nutritional staples for hair growth include vitamin D (salmon, ricotta, mackerel, egg yolks), vitamin E (almond, peanut butter, pumpkin, safflower oil, spinach), biotin (meats, eggs, fish, seed, sweet potatoes), protein (protein powder, meats, fish, beans, nuts, cottage cheese), and omega-3 fatty acid (supplements, fish, avocados). If you find it hard to incorporate all these foods, Nature’s Bounty has vitamins focused to help hair, skin, and nail health. Most of the time, our appearance is a reflection of our health so we must focus on the inside before we work on the external.

4.  Consistent Routine

To reap the benefits of a meticulously crafted routine, we must be consistent with it! Just because you have used a product for a couple of weeks and haven’t seen noticeable hair growth, you should not be so quick to switch things up. Keeping a consistent routine will help your hair adapt to the products it is receiving and decrease manipulation.

How fast does hair grow? Most people grow hair an average of 1/2 inch per month leading to 6 inches per year. If you have a curly texture prone to shrinkage, it may be harder to see hair growth in its natural state but you must stay consistent and focus on the health of your hair, not the length.

5.  Low Manipulation and Protection

Low manipulation is a hidden secret in hair growth. Styling your hair daily in intensive ways can promote hair fall and breakage and even promote tension/ traction alopecia. Find ways to style your hair infrequently with low tension with your ends protected and you will a major difference in length and health! In addition, incorporating silk pillowcases, silk scrunchies, or silk scarfs will also dramatically reduce hair breakage and split ends.

5 Must-Have Winter Products- How to Combat Harsh Winters!

5 Must-Have Winter Products- How to Combat Harsh Winters!

Hello Everyone!

Today I will be giving you 5 products you MUST have for winter!

Winter is a beautiful time and we should celebrate it instead of dreading it. I live in Canada so I am very used to cold and harsh winters. Nevertheless, these “winter products” helped my skin, mood, and health stay intact despite the change in weather.

Legal Disclaimer: Audacia is a website made for informational purposes only. By voluntarily undertaking any interventions listed on Audacia, you assume the risk of any resulting injuries or harm and Audacia can not be held liable. Audacia strives to provide accurate and contemporary information but this website is not a substitution for personal research and speaking to your health care provider.

So let’s get into it!

1. Silk Pillowcases

A silk pillowcase is a skincare AND hair care must-have! Sleeping on a silk pillow dramatically reduces the amount of friction on your hair and skin which can reduce split ends and breakage and prevent wrinkles. In conjunction, a silk pillow will not pull moisture from your skin and hair in the way that a traditional cotton pillow would, keeping your skin soft which can be difficult in cold weather.

2. Sweet Almond Oil/ Shea Butter

Sweet almond oil and shea butter are holy grail products that will keep your skin feeling smooth and soft during winter. This oil is rich in vitamin A, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and zinc! These help with skin tone, sun damage, the appearance of scars and stretch marks, acne, and dry skin. Shea butter is very similar as it is also high in vitamin A and vitamin E. It can be used for acne, inflammation, itchy skin, razor bumps, and can be used on your hair! I would recommend unrefined yellow shea butter because it is less processed therefore contains more vitamins. Be careful not to apply too much or else you will end up feeling very greasy. I prefer to apply shea butter after lotion as a “sealant” and before I go to bed.

3. Humidifier

When winter comes around, most of us in the northern hemisphere have the heat going on full blast! Although we feel warm and cozy, central or space heating can significantly dry out the air and dry out your sinuses and skin. Adding a humidifier can increase the air quality, help you sleep, and prevent your skin from drying out. It can also act to relieve ailments such as headache (from sinus congestion), dry throat, nose irritation, dry cough, and cracked lips.

4. Vitamin D Supplements

Wintertime = daylight savings time. In comparison to summer when we receive hours less of daily sunlight! This means less vitamin D which is very important in keeping your bones, muscles, and teeth healthy. I recommend taking daily vitamin D supplements (of course consult your doctor first) to help fight this wintertime deficiency! You can also opt to add more vitamin D-rich foods like oily fish (salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel), red meat, liver, and egg yolks. Vegetarian options include fortified foods like cereal, tofu, oatmeal, plant milks, and yogurt.

Here are recipes that I like that contains a bunch of vitamin D:

Ricotta & Yogurt Parfait

Superfood Chopped Salad with Salmon & Creamy Garlic Dressing

Walnut-Rosemary Crusted Salmon

5.  Snake Plant

Adding indoor plants to your space can help your place look more cozy and stylish but it also has health benefits! Some indoor plants are known for emitting oxygen which can help improve your air quality- which is important since most of us are inside during the colder months. Snake plants clean the air by absorbing any excessive amount of carbon monoxide and in turn emit oxygen and filter harmful molecules like benzene and formaldehyde from the air. Aloe vera plants also work in the same way! I have around 5 plants just in my bedroom and they definitely foster a positive vibe.

Let me know what things you like to stock up on when the colder months come!
